Lenape Squash

Roughwood Seed Collection: Lenape Squash

Stephen Smith of Roughwood Seed Collection recently dropped off some squash that he harvested. This particular squash is a Lenape Maycock variety, it’s extremely rare and dates back hundreds of years. I’ll let Stephen explain more in the video above, but as he says, this squash is, “basically as Pennsylvanian as you could get.”

Roughwood Seed Collection is dedicated to saving seeds and preserving regional biodiversity. The work that Stephen, Dr. William Woys Weaver, and their organization do is incredibly important and it’s truly a privilege to be able to serve these indigenous squashes at Elwood.

Saturday & Sunday Tea at Elwood

Beginning October 24, Elwood will host tea service on Saturdays and Sundays. Two separate seating times will be available at 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

We’ll feature a selection of teas from local providers, Premium Steap and Oma Herbal Teas. Along with tea, we’ll also be serving an assortment of snacks and bites, including Pennsylvania Dutch-inspired specialties like scrapple, snickerdoodle, shoofly cake, and datch (Pennsylvania Dutch quickbread).
